Col. Edward Jessup Branch, UELAC

The Col. Edward Jessup Branch of the UELAC was formed to commemorate the sacrifice, patriotic military service, loyal administrative ability and empire-building far-sightedness, of one of the greatest U.E.L. patriots to participate in the loyal exodus of faithful British subjects to Canada after the American Revolutionary War, in order that they might remain under the Union Flag and maintain its type of representative government. To this cause Colonel Jessup sacrificed his 500,000 acre American estate. He was a Major commanding The Loyal Rangers 1781 - 1784, and continued in that rank until 1788, when he was made a Lt.-Colonel, Commandant of Militia. He personally promoted the settlement of Leeds, Grenville. Addington, and almost as far west as Adolphustown. Founded the town of Prescott in 1810.

The Col. Edward Jessup Branch is especially representative of U.E. Loyalists in the area from Gananoque on the west to Cornwall on the east, with active headquarters in the area.

The Branch conducts and participates in a number of heritage events each year.

Contact the branch by email to Barb Law <bnk@cogeco.ca>.

Upcoming Events

The Colonel Edward Jessup Branch of UELAC will be holding their first AGM and lunch meeting since Covid. We finally found a church that would serve us a meal at our AGM. A lot of churches and other halls are still making meals to raise money for their causes, but the meals are boxed meals and for take away only.

Our meeting will start at 11:30am on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Hall, 107 Holy Trinity Road, Athens, Ontario — that is just west and south of Athens, Ontario. The meal will be prepared by the volunteers of the churches ACW and will consist of ham, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, turnip puff, peas and carrot medley, cabbage salad, tea and coffee and a selection of pies for dessert. The church does these meals as a fundraiser and is charging us only $25 per meal.

We have held our meetings here in the past so those who did attend will know the meals are very delicious. This will be an important meeting for the Colonel Edward Jessup Branch because we have to talk about the future of our branch.

If you do plan on attending please send an e-mail to Barb Law UE at bnk@cogeco.ca so we can let the ladies know how many delicious meals to prepare. If you have any questions please e-mail me. If you would like to attend and don't have any way of getting to the church please let us know and we will try to get someone to pick you up.
