As a current paid-up member you will have full membership rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a member, you may then apply for a UE Loyalist Certificate, which will be granted if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>your Loyalist Ancestor meets the criteria for a UE Loyalist, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you provide adequate documentation to prove your genealogical descent from that UE Loyalist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Joining UELAC<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You join&nbsp;<strong>a branch<\/strong>&nbsp;of UELAC which gives you the benefits which that branch offers, plus those benefits which are offered by UELAC to all members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may join additional branches if you wish. The fee to do so is lower, as a portion of your fee for your primary branch goes to Dominion Office to fund its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you know which branch you wish to join, skip this next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Choosing a Branch<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uelac.ca\/branches\/\"><strong>branches of the UELAC<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;are located from the Atlantic (Halifax) to the Pacific (Victoria)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend that you join a branch which is close to you if there is one so that you can participate with them, and keep current on related local events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To check them out (branch name, location \u2013 a map, email, website and social media presence) visit&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uelac.ca\/branches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UELAC Branches<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Questions You Will Be Asked<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to answer some questions as you go through the steps to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Which branch you are joining<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you joining as an individual, or as a family (for some branches, how many in the family)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are joining as an individual some branches offer a reduced fee if you are a full time student under a certain age limit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The basics \u2013 name, address, email, telephone etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The branch may offer a newsletter periodically; UELAC offers the\u00a0<em>Loyalist Gazette<\/em>\u00a0which is published twice each year. As a member you can access the\u00a0<strong>Digital Gazette<\/strong>\u00a0in the Members\u2019 Section. Please do indicate the digital copy anyway, but if you really would like to receive a paper copy of the\u00a0<em>Loyalist Gazette<\/em>\u00a0via the post office, then also check\u00a0<strong>Paper Gazette.<\/strong>\u00a0You may do the same for copies of any branch newsletter which the branch publishes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your payment information: credit card or Paypal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Join Now, or Add an Additional Branch<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here you can process a membership and pay for it in order to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>join<\/strong>\u00a0your first branch as a\u00a0<strong>new member<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>add<\/strong>\u00a0a membership in an\u00a0<strong>additional branch<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>pay for someone else\u2019s new or additional membership<\/strong>\u00a0or renewal of an existing membership;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>click on the branch below in which they are or will be a member;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the phrase at the top \u201cWant to do this for a different person ? Click Here\u201d, click on \u201chere\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type in the other person\u2019s surname followed by a comma. One or more people should appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the name of the person you wish to pay for.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0If you do\u00a0<strong>NOT<\/strong>\u00a0find the other person, then\u00a0<strong>do this<\/strong>\u00a0to avoid changing your own record:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log out of the website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on the homepage, select the button at the top to \u201cBecome a member\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the form for the other person, do NOT put your email as their email (use your email in the billing detail). If they don\u2019t have an email, leave that field blank. As the person paying you should get a receipt by email. The perosn you are adding will obviously not get a receipt in this case.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finish and pay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their data should appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At bottom of the page check the billing email, and if necessary, correct it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your payment details and proceed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>NOTE:<\/em>&nbsp;If you are already a member of any branch,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uelac.ca\/wp-login.php\">log in<\/a>&nbsp;before you proceed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a member of&nbsp;<strong>multiple branches<\/strong>, or wish to join more than one, you must process and pay for each in turn. To join another branch beyond the first, select the \u201cAdditional branch\u201d membership type for those.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are processing a new&nbsp;<strong>family membership<\/strong>, join once for the family. When you receive your receipt, it will be from the&nbsp;<strong>Membership Person<\/strong>&nbsp;at the branch. If this is your main or primary branch, reply to the receipt with the names of the other members of your family, and include for each of those persons his or her email address&nbsp;<em><strong>if<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;that person has a unique email address (as a member using their own email address, they will then be able to log in to the members\u2019 section).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Half-year memberships<\/strong>. All memberships end on&nbsp;<strong>Dec 31<\/strong>&nbsp;each year. Many memberships run for the full calendar year. However a number of branches for some types of memberships offer half-year memberships. When a branch does offer them, people joining after&nbsp;<strong>July 1<\/strong>&nbsp;will see these rather than the full-year options in the selection list.&nbsp;<em>There is no difference between the full and half-year options<\/em>&nbsp;<em>for the remainder of the year<\/em>. NOTE: the half-year options are withdrawn on 1 November; after that date anyone joining is doing so for the following year (and whatever remains of the current year).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When&nbsp;<strong>renewing<\/strong>, if you wish to&nbsp;<em>change<\/em>&nbsp;your&nbsp;<strong>type of membership<\/strong>, e.g. family to individual or vice versa, or half-year to full-year, then select the new membership type. (If you are changing membership type before your current membership term has expired, please do this&nbsp;on or after&nbsp;November 3.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have questions, please reach out to the branch you are joining.
