Biography : Joseph was a major in the British Army when the Am. Rev. broke out. He immediately declared himself loyal to the Crown and came to Canada. He worked for Capt. Justus Sherwood as a spy and formally joined the British Secret Service in 1783. He reentered the U.S. to carry out his duties for the Crown. When he returned to Canada with his family, he was entitled to 1000 acres of land for his service to the Crown.
