Regiment : Queens American Rangers with Captain Francis Stephenson who commanded the outfit under Simcoe.
Enlistment Date : abt 1776 in NY with his brother Thomas.
Date & Place of Birth : born 1759 in England, but don't know where.

Date & Place of Death : He drowned in the St John river in Oct 1783 when he supposedly fell off a raft.

Wife Name : Wife Mary unk. she was pregnant when John supposedly fell of the raft he was poling the other person with them was Johann Christian Fuchs changed it to Fox when he married the Widow Mary.
When Mary had John Sr.'s son in the spring of 1784 Fox tried to get John Sr's land grant but was turned down as it was to go to Sr's son John Porter, Jr

Military Info : John was in the Light Infantry co. was all over the place, Battle of Brandywine 1777 in Germantown also 1777 but primarily NY, NJ, Ct and Va. then in 1780 in the siege of Charleston, SC and the Battle of Springfield. Then 1780 transferred to a new troop of cavalry being raised in the regiment by Capt John Saunders and he is listed as the hornsman ( Bugler) they were sent to garrison Georgetown were in several skirmishes then returned to NY in 1782 and there is more.
Loyalist Genealogy : Son John Jr, Jr's son my great grandfather Jacob b 1825 Woodstock my grandfather Sherman Hill Porter 1873 and my mother Edna Blanche Porter 1905 and me Dorothy J. Moss Porter.
