The parents of Nicholas Phillips are unproven at this time. However, it is known that his wife was Elizabeth; her surname remains a mystery. It appears that they had seven children, five of whom are known by name: Elizabeth, Nicholas, John, Margaret and Jacob. Evidence exists for two other daughters, names unknown.
Upper Canada Land Petitions have been found for three of their children, each of which clearly identifies Nicholas Phillips of Butler’s Rangers as their father. The land petition of Elizabeth (Phillips) Davis provides more details of the family. She stated that she had, in addition to her father, three brothers who served – two with Butler Ranger’s and one with the KRRNY. She further noted that her brothers and one sister had received land.
The petition of Nicholas Phillips junior, in addition to asserting that he was a son of Nicholas Phillips senior, provides information about the death of his father.
The 1797 petition of Jacob Phillips stated that Nicholas Phillips was his father.
