There are several Petrie families that seem to have been confused in various records due to the many spellings. Johan Jost Petrie, Sr., seems to have been confused with Joseph Peters, a sergeant in Butler's Rangers and with Joseph Petrie, Junior, a private in Butler's Rangers. Joseph, Jr., married Elizabeth Wintermute, daughter of Philip Wintermute, U.E.
