Wife Name : Elizabeth Robinson, born around 1731 and died after 1802.
Children : Anna (Annie), Mary, Robert, Caleb, Gilbert Robinson, Israel, son possibly named John
Biography : Robert's parents were Thomas III Merritt and Mary Underhill Merritt. He would have been a farmer, given that his will mentions land of over 100 acres, livestock, sheep, and hogs, etc. His wife, Elizabeth Robinson, was born in Londonderry Ireland around 1731.

The Merritt family arrived on the ship Montague in 1783.

A document dated May 1784 shows that he had also been granted land in Shelbourne, Nova Scotia.
