| Biography : | John McLaney wrote his will on 2 September 1845 at Pelham Township and it was probated there on 19 May 1846. He was a member of the Pelham (Quaker) Meeting which records his marriage to Elizabeth Taylor on 11 December 1805 and the births (and deaths) of their seven children: Martha Brown McLaney, John Taylor McLaney, Hannah Lucas McLaney, Anna McLaney, Rebecca D. [likely Dennis] McLaney, Andrew J. McLaney and Hannah Crosier McLaney. Of these, only Martha and Hannah married and had issue, Martha's only son dying in early childhood. Hannah married Thomas Gould and had a son and daughter; the daughter married Henry Dennis Sanders, a descendant of Elizabeth McLaney and Matthias Sanders. | Family Genealogy : | Martha (Brown) Dennis, wife of (2.) John Dennis, was married previously to Dr Andrew McLaney, surgeon of the Royal Navy, who was lost at sea ca 1780-1. Martha had two children with Andrew: John McLaney, who is also on the UEL List (suspended 5 November 1804), and Elizabeth. Elizabeth, who was born circa 1780 and often known as Elizabeth Dennis, married firstly to Mathias Sanders and secondly to a bigamous American doctor who disappeared with the money she had inherited from her parents. |
