2010 UELAC Convention in Vernon, B.C.

Carol and Peter Davy of Kingston and District Branch attended the 2010 Convention of the UELAC, held in Vernon, B.C. The Convention always includes the Annual General Meeting of the Association, but it's not all serious talk and elections: there are opportunities for good fun, good food and fellowship. The Davys kindly shared the photos below.
The Convention visited the Okeefe Ranch in Vernon, where some folks tried their hand at panning for gold.
Others hoped to separate some of the conventioneers from their "gold"! This Silent Auction provided a colourful scene.
On the Friday evening, conventioneers attended a Cowboy Dinner Show at the Okeefe Ranch. Some presentations were made, and brought smiles to all these faces. It's particularly nice to see such a young girl receiving a Certificate of her United Empire Loyalist descent.
The genial gentleman seen with Dominion President Fred Hayward in all these shots is the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, the Honorable Stephen L. Point, OBC. The Convention was honoured and grateful for his participation.

This photo offers an interesting juxtaposition of Fred in his 18th-century attire, and the digital camera in the foreground! Most Loyalists went to their graves before the camera was invented.
Past President Doug Grant and his wife Nancy Conn smiled for the camera during Friday dinner.

The Saturday Banquet has a more formal look. Representatives from each UEL Branch include Carol Davy, third from left (in a red suit) who represented Kingston Branch.
However, there was obviously some interesting entertainment presented at the Banquet as well!

Right: This storyteller was Christine Pilgrim -- obviously providing an evening of fun.

Next year the Convention will be held in Brockville, Ontario, hosted by Col. Edward Jessup Branch: Thursday, June 2 - Sunday, June 5, 2011 - plan now to attend!
